When people think of the Algarve, they often think of summer. July and August, hot days, busy beaches and long evenings outside. Those of us who live here know a different side of it. And it might be the best one.
The Eastern Algarve has around 300 days of sunshine a year, and life does not stop when summer ends. Autumn, winter and spring have their own rhythm: quieter, slower and, for many people, far more relaxing. It is not always beach weather. Very often, though, it is still lunch-outside-in-the-sunshine weather. That is one of the pleasures of living here.
More than a summer destination
Once the busiest months are over, the Eastern Algarve changes. The beaches grow quiet, restaurant terraces have space again, the roads are calmer and a walk beside the Ria Formosa becomes one of the nicest ways to spend an afternoon.
For visitors who do not need 30 degrees every day, this can be one of the best times of year to come. Autumn often feels like an extension of summer, with warm days lasting well beyond September. Winter is quieter, but blue skies and sunshine are still part of everyday life. Then spring arrives early, bringing longer days, warmer temperatures and the countryside back to life. It is the perfect time to explore the region rather than stay beside the pool.
A good time for golf
For golfers, the cooler months are the best. The Eastern Algarve has some fine courses, including Benamor Golf, Quinta da Ria, Quinta de Cima and Monte Rei Golf & Country Club. At the height of summer, eighteen holes under the Algarve sun is not everyone's idea of relaxation. From autumn through to spring, temperatures are far more comfortable, which makes this one of the best periods to play. And finishing a round with lunch outside in November is not bad either.
What if you stayed for more than a week?
Not everyone comes to the Algarve for a seven-night holiday anymore. More and more of our guests stay for several weeks, or longer. Some want to escape part of the northern European winter. Others are retired and finally have the freedom to travel without watching the calendar. Many simply have the flexibility to work from somewhere else. If your office is your laptop, why not make the Eastern Algarve your office for a while?
A holiday home makes a longer stay feel different. You have your own kitchen, living space and, depending on the property, a terrace or garden. You shop locally, find your café, settle on the restaurant you keep going back to, and ease into the rhythm of the area. After a while, it stops feeling quite so much like a holiday. It starts to feel a little like home.
Working remotely from the Eastern Algarve
Remote work has changed the way many of us travel. You no longer have to choose between going away for a few weeks and taking time off work. With a comfortable home and a good internet connection, an ordinary working day can look quite different here. Coffee outside in the morning. A few hours of work. Lunch on a terrace. A walk beside the Ria Formosa when you finish. And tomorrow, the same again.
Outside the peak season, the Eastern Algarve offers something valuable for remote workers: quiet, space, sunshine and a slower pace, with everything you need for daily life close by.

Sometimes, it is somewhere to stay a little longer.
